Anti-Anthrax Discovery

Published torsdag 1 december 2005 kl 11.35

Swedish scientists have discovered a substance which they say quickly counters anthrax. The deadly bacteria has been used for terrorist attacks in both the United States and Japan.

Writing in the American journal the “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” researchers at Stockholm University and other institutions describe how they have identified an enzyme in anthrax necessary for reproduction, and their discovery that a substance called N-hydroxylamine stops the enzyme.
