Consumers Flee Former Tele Monopoly
According to a new report from the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency, by June this year more than 770,000 Swedish households had turned their backs on the former monopoly telephone company Telia Sonera, and switched to other operators.
Telia says the report reflects a structural change in the market, rather than a flight by consumers. Telia remains Sweden’s most expensive telephone operator.
The report also shows that telephony over the Internet increased by 123 percent in the last year, with 126,000 households choosing IP telephony over traditional landlines.
