Olsson to Miss Indoor Season

Published fredag 9 december 2005 kl 11.53

Olympic triple jump champion Christian Olsson is likely to miss the coming indoor season because of a foot injury.

The 25 year old first hurt his foot when he won gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and has since struggled with the injury. He missed defending his World Championship title earlier this year.

In soccer, Siyabonga Nomvethe scored in the 26th minute to give Sweden’s Djurgården a 2-1 away win at Norway’s Lyn Thursday. The victory keeps Djurgården in first place in the Royal League’s Group 3, ahead of IFK Goteborg. Former two-time UEFA Cup champion Goteborg drew 3-3 at home against Denmark’s Aalborg in a game where all but one of the goals were scored by Swedes.

Meanwhile, Norway’s Lilleström beat the Swedish side Kalmar 2-0, to take the lead in Group 2.

The Royal League, named because Sweden, Norway, and Denmark are constitutional monarchies, involves the top four teams from each of the Scandinavian countries.
