Champagne Celebration "Unacceptable"

Published tisdag 20 december 2005 kl 12.03

The newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” reports that some staff at the Swedish Migration Board celebrated with champagne the expulsion of a family of rejected asylum seekers to Russia.

“Dagens Nyheter” says the deported family included a very sick child.

The newspaper cites an e-mail from a board employee, inviting others to the party in November last year. The next day a new e-mail was sent saying the festivities were not in connection with any particular expulsion, but rather to celebrate good cooperation with the police and psychiatric care personnel.

“Dagens Nyheter” says there have been several similar celebrations.

The head of the Migration Board says such activities are unacceptable and in this case was the action of individuals, and not representative of the agency.
