Indonesia Normalizes Diplomatic Ties

Indonesia says it will once again send an ambassador to Stockholm.

The post has been vacant for a year to protest Sweden’s refusal to take action against exiled Aceh separatist leaders here.

The move to normalise diplomatic relations follows the signing of a peace pact between Jakarta and the Free Aceh Movement, ending a nearly three-decade conflict in the tsunami-ravaged province.

Prosecutors here dropped an investigation into terrorism charges against Aceh separatists who hold Swedish citizenship, because of a lack of evidence.
