Bird Flu More Common
Swedish research in Vietnam indicates that the infection rate of human bird flu may be higher than previously thought.
In a report in the “Archives of Internal Medicine”, Dr. Anna Thorson of Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute writes that many infections may only show mild respiratory symptoms.
Thorson and her associates studied 45,000 people in a rural district of Vietnam where there have been severe outbreaks of bird flu among poultry. More than one in six reported having had a flu-like illness.
