Russian and Swedish Defense Ministers

A Swedish rights groups says planned military maneuvers of Sweden and Russia’s armed forces are questionable, given the participating Russian brigade’s involvement in the war in Chechnya.

The Swedish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights says it finds it questionable to organize this military operation with Russia considering that the defense of human rights is presented to be an important part of the Swedish foreign policy.  Russia’s Defense Minister says the war games, dubbed Operation Snowflakes, would be taking into account the fight against terrorism, while Sweden says they are a contribution to the defense of peace.
