Too Many Ombudsmen?

Published fredag 24 februari 2006 kl 12.46

Sweden’s ombudsman system has been adopted around the world as an interface between the public and government. But now a government study suggests that there are too many ombudsmen for similar issues.

The study proposes that the four ombudsmen tasked with fighting discrimination against women, the handicapped , homosexuals and immigrants should be combined into one department.

The proposal has been criticised by civil rights groups who argue that it’s better for each group to have their own specialised ombudsman.
