Olympics Overshadow Tennis Triumph

Published måndag 27 februari 2006 kl 11.39

The Turin games have been Sweden’s best Winter Olympics ever, with 7 gold medals, 2 silver, and 5 bronze.

The culmination came Sunday when the Swedish men defeated Nordic rivals Finland 3-2 for the ice hockey gold.

But there was also good news for Swedish tennis during the weekend. Twenty-two year old Sofia Arvidsson captured her first WTA Tour title Saturday, outlasting Marta Domchowska of Poland to win the Cellular South Cup in Memphis, Tennessee in three sets.

In the men’s final on Sunday, Sweden’s Robin Söderling had to settle for second best, falling to Tommy Haas of Germany in two straight sets.
