Liberal MP Returns After DUI "Time-Out"

Published onsdag 8 mars 2006 kl 11.26

An influential member of the opposition Swedish Liberal Party has returned to her duties following her arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

When Karin Pilsäter was caught in a police test in mid-February she said she was taking a time out from her duties as a member of parliament and as her party’s economic spokesperson. The incident was particularly embarrassing since the Liberals are one of the strongest supporters of Sweden’s tough policies on alcohol.

Pilsäter was detained on a Saturday morning, after having drunk several glasses of wine the night before. There was enough alcohol left in her blood to exceed Sweden’s tight restrictions for drunk driving.
