Arrest After Airport Robbery

Published onsdag 8 mars 2006 kl 11.29

The Swedish police say they have arrested a suspect following Tuesday’s robbery from a passenger plane at Gothenburg’s Landvetter airport.

Masked gunmen crashed through a gate and held up luggage handlers as they were unloading crates of foreign currency from a newly landed SAS flight from London. Parts of the airport were later evacuated after the thieves left a suspicious package that the police said looked like a bomb.

According to the police, they arrested a man in his 40’s Tuesday evening, north of Gothenburg. The police say suspects in a car were followed after the robbery, and that led to the detention.

There is no report if any of the stolen currency has been recovered.
