Did Persson’s Closest Man Lie?

Published fredag 10 mars 2006 kl 12.01
Lars Danielsson testifies before the Committee on the Constitution

The Swedish Parliamentary Ombudsman is investigating Prime Minister Göran Persson’s closest aide, Lars Danielsson.

Danielsson has given conflicting stories about his activities after the Asian tsunami disaster, including different testimony before an official commission and parliament’s Committee on the Constitution. The Parliamentary Ombudsman tells the newspaper “Svenska Dagbladet” that he will be investigating if Danielsson has lied.

On Thursday, citing national security, the Swedish government refused to provide information on whether Danielsson officially clocked into government offices the day after the disaster, which would confirm his claim he was at work.
