Swedish Opposition Defends 2 Expelled Refugees

Published tisdag 14 mars 2006 kl 13.12
Human Rights Watch denounced the expulsions

Three Swedish political parties are demanding that 2 Egyptian refugees – expelled from Sweden suspected of terrorist activities – be compensated and allowed to return to this country.

These are the Greens and the Left Party, usually supporting the Social Democratic minority government, and the Christian Democratic opposition party.

The government has been severely criticized both here at home and abroad for the action 2 years ago for allowing armed and hooded American CIA agents to come here and fetch and abuse the men – and for accepting Cairo’s promises that the 2 would not be tortured in jail.

Both men claim they were tortured in Egypt. One remains in prison and the other was freed by a court for lack of evidence.
