Failing Grades for Nazi Sympathies

Published onsdag 29 mars 2006 kl 10.26

A middle school in southwestern Sweden has announced students with racist or neo-Nazi sympathies will not get a passing grade in Social Studies.

The principal of Ytterbyskolan, north of Gothenburg, says freedom of speech does not mean freedom to insult others.

The decision has been criticized by the head lawyer for the National Agency for Education, who says that if students can demonstrate that they have learned what is required about democracy, but still personally think dictatorship is better, that shouldn’t affect their grades.
