Swedes Willing Labor Tourists

Published tisdag 4 april 2006 kl 11.15

A new European Union study reveals that Swedes are among the most willing in the EU to move to another country for a job.

Only the French, Dutch, and Poles are more interested in crossing borders in search of employment. In all four countries more than 70 percent say they would be willing to move abroad for a better job. The least interested are Austrians, among whom only 23 percent would travel for better employment.

The figures come as a surprise, both to those who feared massive job tourism following the expansion of the EU, as well as to the Swedish Labor Market Board.

While come might attribute the interest in leaving the country to the chilly Nordic weather, the agency’s head just says there is an historical mobility on the Swedish labor market.
