Seal Hunt Quota Unchanged
The annual culling of gray seals along Sweden’s Baltic coast is set to begin on Easter Sunday.
The number to be shot, 170, is the same as last year.
According to the Swedish Environment Protection Agency the population of gray seals in the Baltic has increased to around 22,000.
The hunt will continue through the end of the year.
According to the agency, seals cause around 7 million dollars of damage annually to Swedish fishing, including nets and other equipment.
