Blix: Offer Iran More Carrots
Veteran Swedish diplomat Hans Blix says the international community should offer Iran more incentives to renounce its nuclear program.
The former chief UN weapons inspector in Iraq, and one-time head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, says the United States and other countries should give Iran the same kind of carrots offered to North Korea.
Speaking at an energy seminar in Oslo, Blix said he did not think the United States would invade Iran, following its negative experience in Iraq. But he says the U.S. could carry out targeted strikes on military installations, which would provoke a violent reaction leading to increased terrorism.
Iran has so far refused to freeze its uranium enrichment program, which many believe conceals plans to build nuclear weapons.
