Calls for Young Socialist Leader to Step Down

Anna Sjödin the day after the scuffle

Leading Swedish Social Democrats are calling on Young Socialist leader Anna Sjödin to step down, at least temporarily.

This follows a prosecutor’s decision to file charges against Sjödin in connection with a scuffle at a Stockholm nightclub in January. The club’s bouncer says the Young Socialist leader made racist comments when he tried to evict her friend for having too much to drink.

Sjödin denies the charge and says the bouncer attacked her, but the prosecutor has declined to follow-up on her complaint. The controversary comes with 5 months left until general elections here.
