Mixed Report on Dealing with Disaster

Published måndag 10 april 2006 kl 12.05
Sweden was unprepared for the storm Gudrun in early 2005

In its annual review, he Swedish Emergency Management Agency says this country is unprepared to deal with serious crises.

According to the report Sweden is most vulnerable to the consequences of longterm power failures, breakdowns in electronic communications, and attacks by chemical, biological, or radioactive weapons. However, the agency says that Sweden’s situation is not acute, and points out that this country is not a primary terrorist target.

On the plus side, the report concludes that Sweden is in good shape to deal with a pandemic or accidents with toxic substances.
