Stockholm Traffic Increasing Again

Published tisdag 11 april 2006 kl 11.17

Traffic in Stockholm is once again increasing, despite the recent introduction of congestion charges for entering and leaving the city.

When the road tolls were introduced at the beginning of the year, traffic in the city dropped by 28 percent. But figures for March show a slight increase. There has been criticism that public transportation, which is supposed to absorb the commuters abandoning their cars, has not been up to the job, with many delays and trains withdrawn from service.

The congestion charge experiment ends in July, and Stockholmers will vote on whether to keep the system in September.
