Annika Sörenstam hits from the sand

Sunday was a bad day for Swedish golf.

Henrik Stenson seemed to be cruising with a three-stroke cushion in the Asian Open, when his ball hit a tree on the ninth hole, and bounced into the water. He ended up with a disastrous triple bogey, and a tie with Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castrano, who won the play-off.

On the women’s circuit, Swedish ace Annika Sörenstam had a rare final round meltdown  in the Natural Charity Championship in Florida. After three straight rounds in the 60s gave Sörenstam the lead going into the final day, she slumped to a 3-over 75 that left her in a three-way tie for second, behind the winner, Sung Ah Yim of South Korea.
