Israel - Sweden Row Continues

Published fredag 28 april 2006 kl 12.38

Israeli Ambassador in Sweden disapproves of Swedish army practice pull out and Hamas visit.

Yesterday we reported that Sweden decided to withdraw from international air force manoeuvres in Italy, after hearing that Israel will participate too. The argument for the withdrawal is that Sweden’s credibility as mediator will be harmed if the Israeli and Swedish armies participate in the same manoeuvres.

The Swedish pull out, paired with the fact that organizations in the south of Sweden have invited newly elected Hamas leaders to speak at local conferences, have upset diplomatic relations with Israel. The Israeli Ambassador thinks that Sweden implies that Israel is not a peace seeking country and that more should be done to prevent Hamas from coming here.
