Pain Common After Stroke

Published måndag 8 maj 2006 kl 11.32

Swedish medical researchers report that persistent pain is common after strokes, and may continue to months.

The survey of nearly 300 Swedish stroke sufferers was conducted by Lund University Hospital in southern Sweden. Writing in the “Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry” they report that four months after suffering a stroke, 32 percent said they had moderate to severe pain.

Pain intensity was more severe at 16 months than at 4 months, particularly in women with signs of depression.
