Address Can Determine Cancer Survival
According to a new study, the home residence of a cancer patient in Sweden can determine whether they survive or not.
The report from the Swedish Cancer Society points to major regional differences in the healthcare system here. In some areas there are long lines for chemotherapy treatment, while in other places the equipment is unused. The cost of medicine for breast cancer patients is three times as high in some areas compared to others.
Cancer is the number one cause of death among Swedes under the age of 75. Commenting on the report, Minister of Health Ylva Johansson says it is unacceptable if all patients cannot receive the same level of care.
