Conference on Child Sex Tourism

Published tisdag 30 maj 2006 kl 12.00
Communications Minister Ulrica Messing

On Monday the Swedish government held a conference aimed at fighting child sex tourism.

Opening the meeting, Minister for Communications Ulrica Messing said the problem of men travelling to other countries to exploit children has to be fought on the European Union level.

One of reasons for the conference is a French initiative from last October, calling for a common EU strategy.

Among the non-government organizations taking part was the Swedish branch of Ecpat, which works against the child sex trade. The organization’s Secretary General welcomed the government’s initiative, but said it has come rather late.
