Energy Cartels?

Published torsdag 1 juni 2006 kl 13.17

The Swedish Competition Authority is looking into electricity prices and is investigating claims that power companies keep down production in order to raise prices.

The companies deny forming a cartel but state-owned Vattenfall admits that the company did indeed lower production to raise prices but says it did so independently of the other players on the Swedish energy market.

The Swedish Competition Authority has played down the accusations originally levelled by a Linköping University professor but says energy companies have too great an insight into each other’s activities because they often share ownership of nuclear power plants.
