Sweden Continues War Games with US
Sweden has decided to extend the deployment of a Swedish submarine in U.S. waters for another year to take part in joint exercises with the U.S. Navy.
The submarine has been playing cat and mouse with the U.S. Navy as an ”opposite force” in naval maneuvers for a year and was due to return home in June.
But a Defense Ministry spokesman said the U.S. wanted to extend the deployment for another year.
The 61-meter submarine is among the world’s quietest and hardest to detect diesel subs.
It uses advanced technology to muffle its sound, and can stay underwater for weeks at a time.
