Artificial Turf Health Hazard

Published onsdag 14 juni 2006 kl 12.21

The Swedish Chemicals Inspectorate has warned that artificial turf here can be a hazard to health.

The agency says the artificial grass used for sports facilities is often made of recycled car tires, which contain toxins, such as heavy metals, as well as substances which can cause allergic reactions.

Artificial turf is used on around 150 sports fields around Sweden, most outdoors. But many more are planned, 30 in the Stockholm region alone.
