Serial rapist trial begins

Published fredag 16 juni 2006 kl 12.43

A high-profile trial has begun of a 33 year old man who has confessed to being the serial rapist who terrorised a Swedish university town for more than seven years.

Police believe the so-called ”Haga Man”, named after the district in Umeå where the attacks took place, raped at least six women between 1998 and 2005.

DNA tests on men in the town finally led to the arrest of a father of two at the end of March.

Two of the rapes were so violent, he is also accused of attempted murder.
