Fewest Women Candidates Among Conservatives

Published onsdag 21 juni 2006 kl 11.00

Swedish Radio News reports that the Conservative Moderate party has the lowest number of women running for election this September.

The study, carried out by Statistics Sweden, reveals that 37 percent of the Conservatives’ candidates for parliament or municipal councils are women. That compares to exactly half among the Social Democrat and Left Parties.

In an interview with Swedish Radio, Conservative Moderate Party Secretary Sven-Otto Littorin points out that they have improved since the last elections, but admits the party has work to do to get more women onto its lists.
