Food Origins Poorly Marked

Minister of Agriculture Ann-Christin Nykvist looks for food origins at a seminar Tuesday

Swedish grocery stores are poor at letting consumers know where products come from.

The Ministry of Agriculture has studied more than 300 products at 5 major supermarket chains here. Only half indicated the countries of origin. The worst product marking was for meat and fish.

Presenting the results in an op-ed article in the newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture Ann-Christin Nykvist says it has to be easier for consumers to make informed decisions. Tighter regulations are expected next summer after a more extensive study.
