Persson Kicks Off Almedalen Week

Published måndag 3 juli 2006 kl 11.28

As the annual politics week kicked off on the island of Gotland Sunday, Prime Minister Göran Persson said he is optimistic of leading the government to re-election in September.

On the first day of what has been called a “rock festival for politics” in and around Visby’s Almedalen park, Persson said the nation’s economy is growing stronger.

He also criticised the center-right opposition parties for what he called a “tremendous misjudgement” in proposing spending cuts in a time of prosperity.
