Decrease in Homophobic Crime

Published tisdag 4 juli 2006 kl 11.42
Last year's Stockholm Pride demonstration

The number of hate crimes against homosexuals has dropped in Sweden.

According to the Swedish Crime Prevention Council last year 550 complaints were filed for homophobic crimes.

But RFSL, the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights, says there are still too many hate crimes.

Noting that as many as 40 percent are committed by people under the age of 18, RFSL calls for active measures from schools to encourage respect for different values among young people.
