Smoker’s Disorders More Common Than Believed

Research here indicates that the costs of society of the lung disease COPD are three times previous estimates.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is a term for a group of respiratory tract diseases usually caused by tobacco smoking. It includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. A new dissertation from Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute concludes that many of the cases of the disease are under-diagnosed.

According to the new research, 8 percent of the Swedish population suffer from COPD, and the cost of treating them has reached one billion 250 million dollars a year.
