Private Planes Stray into Airliner Space

Published onsdag 19 juli 2006 kl 10.51

The newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” reports that there’s concern over the number of private planes straying into airport safety zones.

Half way through this year 126 such intrusions have taken place, compared to 187 during all of last year. There’s a risk the private planes can interfere with airliners as they land or take off.

According to the civil aviation authorities the biggest problem in southern Sweden is with small planes from the continent who don’t understand the rules that apply in Swedish airspace. When Swedish pilots stray, the experts say, the mistake is usually due to misunderstandings or poor maps.
