Women wrongly told their babies had died
At least three times in the past year in Sweden, doctors have wrongly told women their foetus was dead, according to Sweden’s national authority which assesses medical negligence.
The mistakes were only noticed when medical staff began to remove them.
Doctors say it can sometimes be hard to detect a small foetus’ heartbeat with ultrasound equipment.
The National Board of Health and Welfare says wrong diagnoses are down to new machines or inexperienced staff.
