Dolly Parton Honorary Citizen of Piteå

Published tisdag 8 augusti 2006 kl 11.03

Singing legend Dolly Parton has been honoured by the town of Piteå in northern Sweden.

For the first time in its 17 year history, an international artist has been named an honorary citizen of the town.

The honor is awarded by a jury from the daily local paper Piteå Tidning. The jury’s motivation is Dolly Parton’s ”untiring patriotism” for her own home town in Tennessee.

Dolly Parton was not able to attend the prize ceremony, but in her thank you speech she said that she has always wanted God and her family to be proud of her.

She added that ”to think that I have touched people all over the world is more than I can put into words. I hope I can visit Piteå some day and thank you in person.”
