"End of the line" for 17 stretches of train track in Sweden
According to Swedish Television, the rail authority, Banverket, is considering taking 440 kilometers out of action.
It is claimed the government has not provided sufficient funds for their up-keep.
The cost of maintaining Sweden’s rail tracks has become such a headache for Banverket in recent years, that it has been prioritising the most used lines.
This year it has reviewed fifty-five stretches and out of those seventeen are now said to be under threat.
