Increase in Abuses at Swedish Old Age Homes

Published fredag 11 augusti 2006 kl 13.56

A new Swedish survey shows an increase in the number of reports of mistakes and misconduct at homes for the elderly and the handcapped around the country.

But while some areas show a triple in the number of reports – other places have very little increases and almost no reports from private homes.

Authorities say this could be explained by the lack of knowledge that any suspected cases must be reported.

The reported incidents range from neglect, theft, poor treatment and verbal, physical and sexual abuse.
