Tourism in Sweden is booming, with the Capital, Stockholm, enjoying record visitors in the first half of this year.

The number of overnight stays at Swedish hotels, cottages and youth hostels increased by six percent in the first six months of 2006.

Guest nights in the capital rose by around 250,000 between January and June compared to the same period last year.

Swedish tourists account for 72.2 percent of guests nights. The most foreign tourists come from Germany, with Americans the largest group from outside Europe.
