Forest Fire "Worst Ever."

Published torsdag 17 augusti 2006 kl 12.32

Firefighters in northern Sweden are continuing to battle a forest fire which officials have called ”Sweden’s worst in modern times.”

The fire broke out last week outside the drought-stricken town of Boden, and has since grown to an area of 15 hundred hectares.

A spokesman for the local fire service said that about 40 people from six nearby villages had been evacuated, but no homes were threatened.

More than 60 firefighters and seven helicopters had been called in to battle the blaze.

It’s expected that the fire should be under control within the next few days, depending on the weather.
