Alliance Leads in Opinion Polls

Published fredag 18 augusti 2006 kl 13.46

An opinion poll published Friday showed Sweden’s center-right opposition Alliance maintaining a clear lead ahead of a left-wing bloc led by the governing Social Democrats, with national elections just four weeks away.

A survey by pollster Temo showed the four-party coalition Alliance, led by the Moderate Party, was supported by 50.1 percent of the people interviewed.

The Social Democrats and its supporting Left and Green parties were backed by 45.2 percent of those asked.

Temo gave no margin of error for the poll.

A victory by the four-party coalition in the Sept. 17 election would end 12 years of Social Democrat-led government, 10 of them with party leader Göran Persson as Prime Minister.
