Opposition Presents Election Platform

The alliance leaders announce their election platform

With less than a month until Sweden’s general elections, the opposition alliance presented its campaign platform Wednesday.

The four center-right parties are leading in the polls over the ruling Social Democrats and their Left and Green party allies.

The platform from the Center, Liberal, Conservative Moderate and Christian Democrat parties includes two new initiatives:

  • The four parties are calling for a major environmental program, with more than 130 million dollars for climate research, support for green cars, and proposals to clean up the Baltic Sea.
  • They also want to halve payroll taxes for young people to combat youth unemployment.

The four parties have also reached agreement on the details of their previous proposal to replace property taxes, and to reform the high price of dental care here.

The Liberal Party proposal for a Swedish language test for Swedish citizenship is not in the platform. The four parties also say they have not reached agreement on family policies.
