LM Ericsson Ties Up Billion Dollar Deal

Published torsdag 24 augusti 2006 kl 12.46

In business news, wireless equipment maker LM Ericsson has signed a 1 billion US dollar deal with Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel to expand its wireless networks.

Ericsson said the 3 year contract, which also includes upgrades and technical support, will help Bharti Airtel improve its mobile coverage in rural parts of India, reaching out to all towns in 15 regions.

India, the world’s fastest growing wireless services market that is adding nearly 5 million new users a month, has become a hotspot for global telecoms equipment giants like Motorola Inc. and Nokia.
