EU Leaves Sri Lanka Observer Force

Published fredag 25 augusti 2006 kl 17.53

The outgoing Swedish commander of Nordic observers in Sri Lanka has criticised the European Union for labeling the Tamil Tiger guerillas as terrorists.

Retired Brigadier General Ulf Henricsson says this was a mistake – giving the Sri Lankan government an o.k. to attack the rebels even though both parties signed the ceasefire as equals.

EU members Sweden, Denmark and Finland have been forced to leave the observer force because of protests from the Tigers that the EU was treating the two sides unequally.
