Persson Predicts 4 Percent Unemployment
With elections here just three weeks away, Prime Minister Göran Persson says he expects total employment in Sweden to reach 80 percent this fall, and repeated that he sees unemployment falling to 4 percent.
In a joint interview on Swedish Radio and Swedish Television, Persson said job creation in the economy is very strong. The Social Democrats and their parliamentary allies are in a neck and neck race with the four part center-right opposition alliance, with most polls giving a slight lead to the opposition.
The target of 80 percent is an old goal for the Social Democrats. It’s been hard to reach, but in July the figure reached 79.9 percent.
