The new archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Sweden was installed Saturday.

Anders Wejryd was elected as the 69th leader of the former state church in March. Speaking during his installation at Uppsala Cathedral he called for the church to become more integrated in society, warning that if the church puts itself on the outside, it places others on the outside.

The ceremony was attended by King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, as well as bishops from around 15 countries.

Anders Wejryd is the first Archbishop of the Church of Sweden elected under the new rules after the split from the state in 2000.
