Young Liberal Hacked into Social Dem’s Network

Social Democrat official Tommy Ohlström describes the intrusion

A 24 year old employee for the Young Liberals has been fired, after revelations he accessed the rival Social Democrat party’s computer network.

The 24 year old has admitted using the login of a Social Democrat party worker in southern Sweden to get into the ruling party’s network at least 78 times since the beginning of the year.

The newspaper “Dagens Industri” alleges that the login information has been spread to “centrally-placed” Liberal officials, “close to the party leadership”. Describing the incident as a “real low-water mark”, Liberal leader Lars Leijonborg, however, has denied that anyone in the party leadership knew about the intrusions. With less than two weeks before the elections, Social Democrat officials say the intruders accessed secret information about the election campaign.

The Social Democrats have filed a police complaint against the Liberal Party, which is part of the opposition alliance currently leading in the polls.

In March it was revealed that a Social Democrat poll analyst had sent e-mail to journalists, purporting to be from the members of the public, smearing the leader of the opposition liberal conservative Moderate Party.
