Soccer Stars Grounded for Breaking Curfew

Three members of the Swedish national soccer team have been sent home for violating their curfew Sunday night.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Olof Mellberg, and Christian Wilhelmsson left the team hotel in Gothenburg after the 11:00 PM curfew and reportedly stayed out until just after 1:00 AM, celebrating Mellberg’s birthday. Even though no one is suggesting they drank alcohol, they will not be allowed to play in Wednesday’s European championship qualifier against Liechtenstein.

Olof Mellberg has issued a statement regretting that he did not follow the rules. However the newspaper “Sydsvenska Dagbladet” says all three players now refuse to play on the national team as long as Lars Lagerbäck remains coach.
