One in Five Candidates Has Criminal Record
Swedish Radio News reports that nearly one of five candidates in the elections for parliament and municipal councils here have a criminal record.
According to statistics from the Swedish Crime Prevention Council, 19 percent of candidates have committed crimes. Minor offences are not included. One-third of the cases involved violations of motor vehicle laws.
Among men running for local councils, the figure is 27 percent.
On Sunday the newspaper “Aftonbladet” reported that three politicians running for office here have been convicted of sexual offences against children.
